How To Match a Scanner to the Size of Your Organization

October 19, 2017

So now you’ve decided you need a new scanner.

Small credit unions or businesses with only one branch or location, can generally get by with one large check scanner for scanning.  If you are using Teller Capture software, you can benefit by having one per active teller and may be able to use the smaller scanners to get all of your daily scanning done.

Larger credit unions or businesses will benefit from having multiple scanners. We usually suggest having at least one scanner in each location. If you have two or more locations, then a check scanner in each location will eliminate the need to courier checks to a central location for scanning. This will place your checks into “the system” sooner, too. Again, the workload will define how many scanners would be most beneficial and cost effective in each location. To avoid any down time in the event of a maintenance issue, you may consider a standby scanner as a backup. In most cases, using a check scanner which incorporates a USB hub will simplify peripheral hookup. And a network based check scanner can allow you to share a scanner between users.

If you have a busy office with a lot of traffic like a large Tax Collector’s Office, having a check scanner at each counter location can improve your workflow. You can handle customers more quickly and get your incoming checks deposited sooner!

Remember, having a good maintenance program in your operation will keep your scanners in the best condition for years to come!
